The first legal distillery on the Isle of Raasay in northwest Scotland began distilling in September 2017. It is their vision to create the finest Hebridean single malt Scotch whisky that reflects the rugged elegance of the volcanic landscape by using the water that filters through it.
This whisky has been carefully finished in Tuscan red wine casks from three vineyards, previously encasing two different grape varieties: cabernet sauvignon and cabernet franc. The result? A single malt whisky of uncommon provenance.
Nose – A welcome smokiness mixed with red berries, lemon and grassy notes with hints of pear, tangerine and melon.
Palate – Dry peatiness mixed in with red wine notes and a good dash of orange zest.
Finish – Oaky and slightly buttery.
