Over the seas to create Ardbeg Kelpie came virgin casks crafted from oak grown on land in the Adyghe Republic, leading down to the Black Sea coast. Renowned for imparting incredibly deep flavour notes, only a handful of whiskies have ever been produced using this kind of cask.
The Ardbeg distillery has forever held a deep connection to the sea. The depths around Ardbeg are full of legends of the creatures that are said to inhabit them. The kelp seaweed forests that surround the shores are home to more than fish that weave between the tangled fronds.
Nose - Powerful and spicy with oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish and seaweed with a sharp and curious herbal note.
Palate - Peppery leading to sea-salty flavours of smoked fish, bacon, dark chocolate and coffee. Fruity, hickory wood and black olives.
Finish - Seemingly lasting forever, with deep, almost subterranean flavours of clove, tar and rich toffee.
