Springbank was built on the site of the previously illicit still used by Archibald Mitchell and when the distillery was officially founded, it became the 14th licensed distillery in Campbeltown.
Long established production techniques, together with the knowledge and experience of dedicated craftsmen, are used to malt barley on traditional malting floors and distil this most handcrafted of spirits.
There are a few Scottish distilleries that still malt their own barley but Springbank is the only distillery which malts 100% of its own barley, using the traditional floor maltings. The whole production process: malting, milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation and bottling all happen on the one site in Campbeltown.
